Last night was a great game for the Rangers!
The began the crucial 6-game homestand with a 7-1 win over the Seattle Mariners, who were just 1.5 games back going into last night.
Scott Feldman went 6.1 innings allowing 1 run on 4 hits.
Michael Young provided 3 hits in his return to the line-up.
Josh Hamilton’s return included a 2-run homer that kick-started the Rangers’ offense.
Derek Holland gets his first Major League win in 1.2 innings of work.
I think I’ve see enough from Holland to know that he’s ready for the rotation. The only problem….there’s no room for him. The Rangers seem to have a surplus of quality starting pitching.
Wait…that can’t be right…
Did I just say the Rangers don’t need starting pitching help???
Wow!
It feels good to write the words!
The fact is the Rangers have gotten more out of their starting rotation than anyone ever imagined. Now I know it is very early in the season, but you can’t help but be optimistic. The way Kevin Millwood is chewing up innings this season has really set the tone for the rest of the staff. The starters are pounding the strike zone, working quickly, and doing everything they can to outlast the other guy on the hill.
As for Holland, I’m not sure what the Rangers have planned for him. I think they would like to get him in the rotation soon. The most inconsistent starter has been Brandon McCarthy, but even he has shown glimpses of brilliance. Do you risk permanently damaging his confidence by taking him out of the rotation? I don’t think so. Not with a 25 year-old guy with his talent. Do you move Feldman to the pen? Not the way he has performed as a starter. Who then?
I don’t have the answer.
But I am certainly looking forward to seeing how it all work out!
Go Rangers!
